I understand how the week before Christmas disappears so quickly - there's cleaning and shopping and just 'getting ready for Christmas' stuff going on. I don't understand how the week between Christmas and New Year disappears. I really haven't done anything - so where has the last week gone? It's like I blinked and missed it. I am, however, super glad that I have next week to look forward to. I have plans!
The trauma this week has been the expiring of this laptop. Well, it hasn't actually expired but it's in an extremely delicate state. I'm having to keep it plugged in and not switched off, otherwise I have to reload Windows and re-enter all my passwords and all that stuff. I've ordered a new laptop (a red Lenovo Yoga, down from £600 to £350, no less) which will arrive in 3 working days. Due to bank holidays and weekends, '3 working days' translates as a week (I ordered it last Wednesday and it will arrive next Wednesday). Still, this one is behaving itself and I'm able to use it - as long as I don't do anything sudden like take it into another room.
I'm making some good progress with Mannerley with 8 chapters of the 'Mrs Lenoir edit' done. But I do need to go back to ch8 and tidy up some loose ends. This whole pass is reassuring me that I'm on the right lines. Mrs L is a definite presence, even where she doesn't actually appear physically, which is pretty much what I wanted her to be. And I've got a definite purpose for Mannerley Marsh, now. I may do a 'Marsh edit' to make sure that all hangs together properly.
So, still on track to publish this baby this year!
AND I have an interesting idea for another Nano-novel, so that gives me a kind of deadline to work to.
The trauma with the laptop means that I've had to leave off my 100% playthrough of FFX-2, so I'm doing a separate playthrough based on what I remember. This is a) much more fun and b) will allow me to see what happens when I give the Kilika sphere to New Yevon without having to complete the 100% playthrough first. I will make some progress on both playthroughs next week
Next week, I'm taking a trip to the Tate with DB on Monday and will be taking down the decs on Twelfth Night (Wednesday). Otherwise, my plan is to list 20 items on ebay (apparently, you can list 20 items for free every month) and transfer all the items listed to another part of the house. The point of listing them is, after all, to declutter but as long as they are in situ, there is no evidence of decluttering! If they don't sell after two listings (the second one is automatic and also free), I will take them to a charity shop.
I will also do another clean through of the house.
And I will check the vacancies for LJMU to see if that mat cover post has come through, yet. If it has, well, there'll be job applications to do, too.
So, by this time next week, I should feel like I've had some time off and used the time well.
Outside home, writing and gaming, I'll be focussing on St Bride's next year. We need to decide what we want to do with the building and then how we're going to achieve that. And we need to run the whole thing as a project.
Well, that's all for now, LJ. See you next week!
