Another week...

Monday and Tuesday were the University's 'welcome event' for new students and I was there to help promote IT Services. It was good to see the students as they arrive rather than as they leave but I did feel that I was surrounded by children. They are adults - but they were born in 1997, for crying out loud! It was also nice to spend time with colleagues that I don't see very often. I really felt one of the gang.

But I have felt I was working with 'boys' a bit, this week. Working in IT, it's expected that the gender split will be weighted heavily on the male side, but I've never felt like a 'girl' - nobody talks down to the women, or implies that they can't do their job, or makes comments about their appearance, or any of that. But there have been three comments from male colleagues this week that have made me wonder if I really am living in the 21st Century, after all. Or maybe I'm just being over sensitive...

My new JD is doing the rounds of senior colleagues, apparently. They are checking the wording very carefully before it goes to HR - to make sure it doesn't get graded at a 7, of course. But I hope they realise that I will be pushing for a 7 at some point, especially if they keep employing contractors who aren't doing any better than I would do.

I do have to admit to letting the ball drop on one thing, though. I hadn't followed up on something because I didn't see it as my job to do the chasing, but actually I think it is. So, I'll be doing more chasing from now on! I'm going to be the best bloody BA that place has ever seen!

I've also written this. Do feel free to leave a comment on my webpage! Or just email me. But Mannerley has been neglected, so I need to pick that up next week.

And I'm making nice progress in Ni No Kuni. Every time Oliver shouts, 'We won!', I hear Paine's voice saying, 'An empty win' :D

Today is our community AI event, so I'll be heading over to church in an hour or so. Should be fun.

The daughter has decided to get the grandson an Xbox One for Christmas, so she's borrowed the money of the son - which means I went into town to buy it. 'cos that's how our family works... The bloke who sold it to me kept trying to push other stuff on me - extra controllers and insurance and stuff - to the point that I almost went somewhere else. If I'd had more time, I might have done.

OK, enough rambles. Bye for now, LJ.
