Stayed late Thursday and Friday to get shit done so that I could leave feeling all virtuous and then realised I'd still missed off one thing. *sigh* But what the heck? Someone else will have to do it.
I've also realised what really irritates me about Mr B - he's arrogant. He comes across as a mild-mannered, smiley person - a bit of an introvert, but he works in IT, that's kind of expected... But he's got that really irritating IT attitude of 'I work in IT, so I must know better', which I don't really get from most of the techies to be fair. Also, he has a line in his JD that says 'direct the professional development of staff', which he really isn't doing but I think it could be argued that he is. I mean, he only has me! It's not like there's a team of 50 that he has to keep his eye on. But I don't feel I've had any real direction from him since he arrived a year ago, except for the question last week about my recommendations.
Then the PM for the big-enormous-scary project (which is due to go live on 11 July and we still don't have all of the requirements!) complimented me on a piece of work. Which is all very nice and we all like to get some recognition, except that he seemed surprised that I'd done such a good job and actually, I felt that what I'd done (created a form and a log to track said form and written the process in both pictures and words) was pretty standard stuff, really. I mean, what was he expecting?
On the good side, it looks like I'm going to get a shiny new Surface funky-laptop-cum-tablet-with-my-own-desktop-thing, which will make working away from the office much easier.
But I have left work behind me for a week and intend to enjoy that week to the full.
I've finished Mount Gagazet and have the Sanctuary Keeper to turn into mincemeat. I made very short work of Seymour Flux, so don't have too many worries about SK.
I've been watching the third series of Six Feet Under which is all kinds of brilliant. I'm always surprised that more people don't know about it.
Some progress has been made on Mannerley. Seriously, this swapping scenes around to other chapters is no fun at all! Still, the result will be worth it, I'm sure. And I wrote a short story for
Black Ship Books, which you can read
here.
And I've just read a book called 'Harvest' in the spirit of 'I'm a writer, so I should read new stuff by people I've never heard of'. It was... interesting but kind of predictable. Interesting in the style - first person, present tense. Not really interesting in the story. I mean, I read it in less than a week and I wanted to know what happened but... I don't think it's going to stay with me. We'll see.
OK, time to get today started, I think. Bye for now, LJ.
