You're kidding me, right?

Last night we had an open house at school. As such I was stationed with K at the Science kiosk in order to talk to parents of students considering attending the school next year. In the past, I've been mistaken for a student (so has K), which I've found to be rather disconcerting. I'm in my late-20's, I shouldn't be mistaken for a teenager! Wanting to portray a tone of professionalism (and adult-ness), I wore a pretty black dress and red kitten heals. I even wore makeup, which I don't do every day!

So what happens?

Not once, but TWICE I was asked by a parent, what grade am I in! These people have kids/teens of their own, how can they really think that I am a student? I am standing in front of a science kiosk answering questions and trying to engage people, and you think I'm a student? Bah! I just can't wrap my head around it.

I've been told by some that I'm supposed to be flattered, that my youthfulness is a good thing, and that I will yearn for these days in future years... but right now I'm just frustrated by it all. If I'm mistaken for a student when I dress professionally, what will they think if I dress like a student would? That's my new goal for next year's open house! Dress like a student and see if parents THEN think I look like the teacher!
