A few of you may have heard me comment about the poor quality of the water at work. Poor, as in, technically safe to drink if you don't count the risk of gagging. Tea was, if not impossible, highly impractical. There was a hot water spout at the sink, but tea made with this water would develop a thick layer of scum on top. I only tried that once or twice. Microwaving the cold drinking water yielded similar results. A combination of Brita filter and electric kettle gave better results, but was still unsatisfactory. I did try bringing good water from home, but the water tasted rather plasticky. Perhaps a glass thermos would have been better. However, before I was forced to resort to such extremes, the kitchen was upgraded -- complete with reverse osmosis filtration system. The coffee pots are now plumbed right into this system, and also have separate hot water spouts. I was hesitant to use already-hot water coming out of a coffee pot, but was pleasantly surprised to find that it makes drinkable tea! Of course tea made properly at home is still better, but I am quite pleased. At least until the filters need to be changed. I'm drinking a rather pleasant cup right now, which inspired this entry.
Completely off-topic, you may be interested to hear that David is crawling like crazy and occasionally terrifies me by pulling himself up on furniture. The online album is still being updated approximately monthly, for those of you who want to see him:
