My, my, what a weekend!
My half day Friday didn’t quite go as planned. It was a bit of an adventure to be honest. We met up as planned sort of….I found Nicky in Tesco with a trolley full of goodies, but not enough so we threw in a few more goodies, lol.
We got settled in the car, headed to the house to pick up Tintin, went for bio-diesel and headed off.
Everything went swimmingly until I heard a ‘tick tick tick tick’ coming from my side of the car just a few miles from the bottom of the Glenshane Pass. Having confirmed with Nicky that I wasn’t hearing things, I decided to try the brake to see if slowing down made it go away. SHOCK HORROR!!! The brakes weren’t working! Mild panic came over me but I managed not to show it or say anything to Nicky, I just kept trying to slow the car down. We pulled into the petrol station and I informed Nicky what the problem was and why we had stopped. I went to try and get a mechanic while Nicky kept Tintin company, and crocheted, lol. Unfortunately, the number I got just kept ringing and ringing and ringing. So I ended up ringing the AA and joining for a small fee (enter sarcasm), shouting at Tintin to be quiet and finally the waiting game began.
After getting very dirty from little Tintin paws we decided to get some lunch from the shop, and I thought I’d give the car another shot and moved it to a cleaner spot. The brakes worked!!! But the AA man was on the way so we just sat and waited for him while eating our little picnic. After an age of staring out windows, and not shouting at a sleepy Tintin who planted himself on the parcel shelf to sleep, three AA texts later the man himself arrived! A quick little boogie and out I bounced to see what the craic was…praying it wasn’t the clutch! ( I couldn’t go through all that again!)
Turns out, the brake line was corroded and therefore not working. I was driving with seriously no brakes! Could he fix it? NO! Only option was to be towed to a garage within a 10 mile radius. Having asked the AA man aka Dave if he knew where there was a garage, an having sussed out the fact that neither he nor I knew of a garage, I managed to talk him into towing us to Crumlin and leave the car with Davey (my mechanic) Course, he hadn’t reckoned on my taking Tintin into the van with me, I wasn’t leaving him to be bounced about in my car!! It was at this point that I informed my father about the whole situation. I didn’t want to worry him or my mother unnecessarily. It did nonetheless, but at least he didn’t have to try to work out how to get the car home since we were being towed.
We arrived at Davey’s to be greeted by the sight of my mother’s car waiting for us. So we shifted all our stuff from my car to hers, threw Tintin into the back seat ( not literally) and went to the house. After waiting for a huffy Thomas to get home, we cleared his car, packed it with out guff, left Tintin behind and set off (AGAIN!) After yet more diesel, we managed to get to Donegal!!! IN ONE PIECE! The CD player was a bit of a nightmare with all the skipping and trying to work it out, but it did us for a while.
We got to the house and the heating was on, lovely jubbley. I lit the fire while Nicky got the dinner on. We got comfy and watched Mallrats, ate crap and knitted/crocheted.
Saturday was a good day. We sat in our jammies, ate crap, watched movies of the Kevin Smith variety and I finished knitting all the bits of my bag. I learned how to weave in my ends with a crochet hook (and I want one) and I also learned to knit backwards and cast on the proper nice way. Nicky learned to cook on gas and to see to the fire, so it was a weekend of lots of learning.
It was a strangely good weekend once we got there of course, lol. Thomas was happy with his half tank of free diesel that I got him, I got my bag finished and Siobhan loved it, and Nicky got her crocheted family presents started and one item completed!
My horse riding boots arrived, as did Siobhans and they’re nice. Just a shame I have to wait to Christmas to wear them. Her jodhpurs arrived too and we were out bid on a horse riding hat by 50p. Now I have to start the hunt all over again. *sigh*
This morning, I snagged a lift to work with Thomas. Minor hitch there, lol. His car wouldn’t start! After 15 minutes of pushing and all that nonsense the thing actually started and off we went. I had to relinquish my car parking space because of my car difficulties, but hopefully the thing will be back by the end of this week.
I hate cars.
