Today was enjoyable except from 1-4pm when my studio becomes an absolute furnace and I can hardly stay in long enough to finish a lesson before running to cooler parts of the building. The Mighty Sam might think I visit him because I enjoy his company, but it's really just the room temperature.
I went back to the gym this afternoon for the first time since having the awful flu that's running rampant across campus. I was probably okay to go over the weekend, but decided to be lazy. I ran almost a mile and a half and didn't have a coughing fit so I'm feeling pretty good! Over the summer I updated the bike that my brother loaned me a while ago. It was in semi-working condition, but the chain was rusty and finally broke. I called him up to make sure he didn't want the bike back and now I have a nice hybrid thing to ride around town. Now that I have a bike, I'm going to enter my first triathlon this summer. The sprint triathlon consists of three legs - swim approx. half mile, bike 12-20 miles, run a 5k. I've got the swimming down (the leg that keeps most people from doing the race) and feel confident about the biking - now I have to train for the run. Just for the record, I hate running. I don't WANT to hate running, but I do. I can hike all day with crazy elevation gain, but running three miles seems like an insurmountable task. If anyone has some training advice for me, I'd appreciate it.
In my quest to purchase more local and nutritious foods, I went to the co-op tonight! Nice little place in downtown Billings where I bought some very yummy looking veggies that come from local farms. As I was eating a tomato from Albertson's last night, I realized just how terrible their produce is - no flavor and it's not cheap! Tonight I bought some beans, chard, potatoes, cherry tomatoes, and yellow squash. It all looks great. I'm also very excited to make Kim's whole wheat bread this weekend. Can I substitute olive oil for the canola? Kim brought along two loaves of her bread on our hiking trip and it was some of the best stuff I've ever had. I think I'm going to add some seeds to the outside along with the oats. I wonder if I can get them to stick to the sides...
