Just got home from paying my utility bill, again. Ends up that the rent check mess (see this for the details) did cause my electric bill to bounce and they did not try to redeposit the check, did result in getting a notice over the weekend (too late to do anything about it) that I had to pay with a cashier's check or a money order immediately, and the notice made it sound like my power could get cut off at any moment. So I got my happy ass to the credit union early this morning, and even though I was not trying to be snippy, when the clerk told me "You don't need a money order for this!" I kind of bit her head off a bit. pffffft As a vegetarian, I don't get to taste blood that much...

I just couldn't help snapping at her that the reason the electric company wouldn't accept a personal check was that the credit union bounced my last check, thanks to the hold they had on my super duper huge deposit.. She looked like she was looking over my account, and didn't charge me for the money order, even though at first she told me that there was a charge for it.

So anyway, went to the payment center, got home and found I still had electricity, called the electric company to report the payment (just in case they were planning on cutting it off first thing tomorrow morning), and so that's all settled.

I decided I am going to take Amtrak, bankruptcy or no. I can always take the bus back if they really do go belly up on Wednesday.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I am hoping that my sister can take a new userpic of me with her new digital camera. I wanna show off my bee-yootiful lengthening hair. (well, okay, that might be a stretch, but something more current than October 2000 might be nice) Looks like I am going to be there for most of the week.

I got a surprise call from a former coworker this morning at about 8. I think she was shocked to find me both awake and offline. Someone gave her an old iMac, and she has no idea what to do with it, so she actually wants to pay me to come over and show her how to use it. From what I could gather over the phone it's one of the older ones, lime green, 4 GB hard drive, 96MB of RAM, running (ick) OS 8.6, and still configured to run on the previous owner's cable modem (which she doesn't have) and as part of a network (which it is no longer a part of). Should be fun. I can't believe that she wants to pay me to help her with it. I still haven't decided if I am going to let her pay me. She has been such a good friend to me, and was so supportive of me when I was really sick a couple of years ago. Still, she has no clue about it, and would pay someone else to help her if I couldn't. I'll have the week to ponder the matter; she wants me to come by when I am back from NJ.

I think it might be time to get some sleep. The challenging part will be to get enough to be functional later while I am getting ready to leave, but not so much that I have another sleepless night.

footnote: the pic I am using is of a cactus in the snow, from the one time it really snowed in San Antonio (16 inches in one night) when I was growing up. It was on a piece of property about a block from my house. Someone at some point asked me what the hell it was.
