Thoughts on gifts:

It's not the cost of a gift, or the occasion or even the *time* put into a present that makes it special. It's someone finding something unique, something that is thoughtful and kind and silly and completely you in that moment. Something that shows that they listen, that they care, that they think of you.

I think the best gift I ever received (not counting parent-gifts when I was young) was a few pairs of warm knit socks that I got from my best friend, Jacob, on our birthday during college. We have the same birthday but he's a year older, so we always call each other and open presents on the phone, and I just remember thinking I didn't think I needed or wanted anything, and then he found that simple, sweet thing that melted my heart. I had mentioned how cold my toes were getting as autumn rolled in during my first year at Scranton, and he remembered. And it was perfect.

So, f-list, what was the best gift you've ever gotten?
