Law & Garden

Last weekend was spent trying to repair my lawn. I've been dealing with a brown patch infestation since last year. The problem was concealed in previous years by the bright green rye grass I always planted, but this year I didn't. This has given me an opportunity to get a head start on killing the fungi before I start fertilizing. It is of the ( Read more... )

The bayer stuff is awesome. I've been using it about twice a year I bought the house, which had some brown patch and take all problems at the time.

No problems since.

The bayer stuff is awesome Everyone is saying this. We are going to do my yard this weekend. My front yard (builders sod) has a lot of brown patch, backyard (I bought the sod)not so much.

What fertilizer have you used and are you happy with it? Sean and I both got some that was recommended by Cornelius Nursery but I cannot recall the name.

Do you know what kind of grass they put in the front? I had a take all problem in the front and filled the empty spots with some seville st. augustine, and that stuff seems to be indestructible.

Are you both sure it's brown patch? Seems early for it, and a lot of lawns are still coming out of dormancy.

I like Scott's Southern Weed and Feed.

I can't believe I'm reading this with great interest.

I'm anxious to see what you do with your yards.

I no longer go to clubs and spend a bunch of money on drinks and stuff. Now it all goes to garden centers and home depot/lowes.

Dude, tell me about it. Not a bad thing though.

Not a bad thing at all. It'd be better though if we could drink for free for more than a few days out of the year.

There's always next year. Next year I'll be open to doing more besides trying to make the hipster bullshit.

It's always good to spray to prevent pests as well. If you don't, they'll eat up the healthy grass and you'll never have a nice green lanw. :)

Pray it's not SAD or take all. If you, be ready to buy some sod...

I'm not familiar with SAD or 'Take All'. I can tell by their names that I do not want to be. What kind of 'pests' are you treating for? I'm somewhat cautious about the amount of chemicals I dump on my lawn. I'm almost to my limit of comfortability.

Chinch bugs and grubs are the ones to be most concerned about here. If you remember, I have a LOT of beds with plants, flowers, shrubs, etc. so I've had to also worry agbout aphids, beetles, spider mites, and other garden pests. Last year my begonias were eaten up for the first half of the season because I didn't think about pest control.

I use this on the lawns and gardens/beds. Will probably try this soon, as it seems more eco friendly and I think the Ortho stuff killed some of my bottle brush shrubs.

Almost to your limit of comfortability? What all chemicals do you use? There are natual fertilizers and pest control stuff out there. If you find some good ones let me know. Also, if you DO have to get some sod get the kind that is chinch bug resistant.

Oh, and SAD = St. Augustine Decline. Think of it as cancer for St. Augustine. "Take All" = take all root rot.

It is St. Augustine but I think it's 'builders grade' just like the paint, carpets, etc that builders use. Plus they just tend to throw the sod down without care to what might be under it. My backyard is much greener and healthier than the front.

I had brown spot since last year but I never treated it.

Was it a lawn fertilizer? I don't recall that. The Osmocote tip was a good one though. I've been happy with that feed for plants & beds.

Yes, it was a lawn fertilizer. It's a blue bad. I can see the bag, I just can't remember the name. Bugger.
