Finding Neverland/Fic finished

Nov 24, 2004 20:54

I went to go see the movie Finding Neverland today with my cousin. My feelings on it below. Spoilers, so beware.

I could tell right away that it was going to be a character study type of movie. And it was.

Johnny Depp is freaking brilliant. His Irish accent nearly killed me, and there are moments all over the film in which you truly see his funny, boyish side. Even more so than in Pirates of the Caribbean.

You do see his serious side, as in the several scenes he shares with Mary, his wife in the movie. Their marriage is very tense and the conversations between them are great in showing that.

Johnny's chemistry with Kate Winslet is also wonderful. You can tell that throughout the movie, they are falling in love with the other. But there are no kisses, no declaration of love, no nothing. The only time you hear Jim (Johnny Depp's character) say anything about is towards the end, during a conversation with Peter (the inspiration of the character Peter Pan). Even then when he says he loves her, it can be taken in different ways.

The boy who plays Peter does a really great job, as does the boys who play his brothers. My favorite was Michael, the youngest, who always says funny things. One particular instance is when his grandmother (played by Julie Christie) asks to speak with Jim alone and he says, "Is Uncle Jim in trouble? Because I've been with grandmother alone and I know what happens" or something to that effect.

The movie is artistically and cleverly done. It touches the heart (you could hear people crying throughout the movie) and it's hilarious. And Johnny brings out your inner child.

Definitely go see it! :D

On another note, my Dean/Pansy fic for shalei is done.
