In the 30 years since the Brixton uprising over 400 black, white, male and female UK residents have died in police custody. One such was Habib Ullah, who was stopped and searched by the brave Thames Valley Police in July 2008. The culture of impunity that surrounds the police in Britain is pernicious and will be the cause of another explosive summer of rage.
Mikey Powell died in Birmingham in 2003 after being CS gassed. The families and friends of the above two (out of over 400) are seeking answers to uncomfortable questions. The stench of a police cover up on a massive scale lies heavy in the air. As with Tomlinson we have no redress, merely a toothless and pro-police "Independent" complaints commission and a media that panders to the D Notice culture that eminates from old Fleet Street.
