Chaplin and Hitler, a happier world with schnurrbart.

Fur Boeticia. Gruss Gott. Wouldn't the world be a happier place if the Viennese Art Academy had let Adolf join before 1914? Adolf trimmed his ordinary moustache after the Great War to look more like Chaplin who was the most popular and highest paid actor on earth at the time. It is a myth that Charles Chaplin had any Jewish ancestry on his Fathers ( Read more... )

Caravaggio, master of candle light.
Chaplin master of lime light.
Hitler, master of torch light.

Caravaggio was what is today called "gay". Hitler was is anything asexual, Chaplin certainly had hang ups about teenage females. Does it detract from their works?

Happy Victory Day to any Russian readers. neilmcg May 8 2010, 23:04:01 UTC
'S actually today, 9th May. Dunno why, but it's always celebrated on 9th May. There are British, US and French regiments in the Parade this year, alongside regiments from the former USSR countries and Russia itself.

I live directly under the flightpath for the flyover here in Moscow, so I usually stay at home to get a grandstand view of the MiGs and Flankers zooming overhead.... because of the low altitude, and the participation of veteran aircraft, the speed is actually a lazy dawdle for the Sukhoi's, and not fast enough to engage the "wings forward" position.

Every Russian town or city will be having its own Parade today to commemorate the defeat of fascism. I hope Mr Griffin catches some of the coverage - the degree of hatred for fascist nutters is no lower now than it was in 1945.

Ironically, this was in post-USSR, which shows that some people once independent, yearn for another "strong man"
a la Uncle A.H. - in a nation that lost over 20 million lives in WWII. It goes beyond belief.

Russia has enacted new laws against Hate Crimes, and they've been used to jail some of those found guilty of violence fuelled by racist hate. Russia is an ethnically diverse nation, and 75% of its territory lies in Asia. Islam and Buddhism are native religions to Russia, and the Constitution protects the rights of those who are not of "European Russian" heritage equally. :) Unlike Britain, anyone with a racist agenda is not allowed to stand in elections at all, and will be debarred. That has even included the Communists - one leading Communist candidate who made anti-semitic remarks in a speech found himself blocked from candidature, and expelled from the Party.

Congratulations to all on the 65th Anniversary of the defeat of fascism in Europe!

Holofernes minus the Schnurrbart boeticia May 9 2010, 09:43:43 UTC
If Judith had been around in 1938, or even earlier,
there would have been no shiny boots trampling around the
continent.

p.s. I prefer Caravaggio's flowery masterpiece - more peaceful.
