Year 1 - Spring - Millar

Dear Diary, I'm not sure why I've been given this but I've been told it's a requirement of us living here.
My name is Jess and my friend is Robin.  We've known each other since university, we were backpacking in a remote area when the outbreak began, maybe that's why we were so lucky.  We've been camping out in the woods here for the past year, it seemed a pretty safe place.  When we saw all these people arrive and move into the clearing we were surprised, we've seen some other people in the area but never so many at one time.  We talked about joining them but we have a big problem, I'm a werewolf, well not a Hammer House of Horror werewolf, just a genetic freak caused by the experimental chemical they sprayed after the outbreak.  We decided to remain hidden.  We did however sneak down at night and check things out, and we might even have borrowed some food, or some clothes, or wood for fires.

By the end of winter we were so tired, hungry and cold we knew the time had come to show ourselves.  We weren't sure what our reception would be like but everyone was very kind and helpful.  Scout seems to be the leader, she had just had a new house built and let us move into her old one.  Heaven!  A roof over our heads at last.  There is even a little vegetalbe plot outside, we were given some tomato seeds to plant.  I think we're going to like it here.

Unfortunately there is one member of the community that doesn't like us, or should I say, doesn't like Robin.  Though I have to say that Robin isn't the easiest person to get along with, believe me!  But Robin has been giving as good as she gets, I just hope this isn't going to cause problems for us, I don't want to leave just yet.

Everyone was shocked the first time they saw me turn into a werewolf, but as soon as they realised I wasn't going to eat them they were okay with it, I mean, they have a couple of zoms and some plantsims, plus a cat and a badger, so who are they to judge?

Robin has got a crush on one of the settlers, he's called Lucas.  He seems okay but he's a bit of a goofball.  He's got a kid, the badger girl, I don't know who her mother is, they live alone, maybe she turned into a zombie.

The two of them are pretty sweet together, he's very shy and when Robin tried to kiss him he insisted he wasn't that type of guy, he believed in making a commitment first.  But ha! they are all that type of guy!  He didn't take much persuasion, believe me, I was there, trying to sleep!  That's the problem with a one room house!

Scout came to visit one day when Lucas was here, when she saw him with Robin she tried to throw herself into his arms, but he pulled back, saying he wasn't that type of guy (can you see me rolling my eyes?)  It was all a bit strange, she's married after all!  But to be honest they all seem a bit strange, maybe we'll get like that too if we stay here too long.  Talking about strange, Lucas brought Robin a gift, a TV, hello?  Are you crazy??  Maybe in 50 years time we'll get to use it, for now it's just a dust magnet, I'm getting rid of it as soon as I can.

So that's our update for Spring, see you in a few months.
