Summer of 2006 is nearly finished. There was so much that I did, and yet there was still so much that I wanted to do!!! As cliche' as it sounds, it seems that I have a little less free time with every passing season. Thinking back, I can still remember summers as I boy (or even a teenager for that matter) that Summer was ENDLESS. I wonder if the answer is simply that I am much busier now then I was back then? I suppose the long pauses in my LJ would be testimony enough! :p
So, at the request of a small six year old we have decided to take one more stab at camping before summer "ends". We had a failed attempt last time due to Ernesto (check last post); it was tough to stay home, but I think it was for the best. But we are undaunted, and will cross our fingers for good weather and a dry September, and hopefully it will work out. While Oskar is more then eager, I am not so sure about Rosie! I told her that the temperatures would be cooling off pretty quickly, and we should be prepared for a cold night with temperatures possibly dropping into the high forties. Now Rosie grew up in Miami, so anything below 75 degrees is a bit chilly, so you can imagine her face when I said 48 degrees... :)
School started for Oskar, and our "big boy" is now in First Grade. We were really concerned about Oskar being placed in a new school, with new teachers and students; but he has done very well. He is quickly making friends, and seems to be enjoying his new school very much. In fact, he wants to join the Cub Scouts, and go to gymnastics with one of his classmates. It took some deliberation, but we decided on the neighboring private school for him; because we were just not comfortable with the school system in in city we live in. But it seems that all of our fears have been dispelled. The church we attend is right next to the school, and the community is really nice and friendly. Everyone made a real effort to make friends with Oskar on his first day. I have talked to a few of the parents, and all of them are very satisfied with the education. So, it looks like we have made a good choice.
And finally, Oskar has lost his first baby tooth, with was met with much excitement. The tooth fairy had left him a sparkly envelope with a crisp two dollar bill; and I can remember when I got a shiny quarter. :)
