Some people can tell you the date they quit believing in the added cash fairy and what they were wearing. I can only tell you the story.
It was sometime in the mid-90s. I was volunteering at an MDGO, probably just doing ace pool sign ups. It was pro Sunday. Steve Peck says, "Rob Hower is sick and he has the bank." I said, "Well, what are we going to do?" Steve says, "We'll have to insist on exact change until we have some change. [to the throng] If you have exact change we'll take you first."
Later when the opening rush died down I asked, "Where will we get the added cash for the pros if Rob Hower is not here with the bank?" "We will get our added cash where we always get our added cash: out of the process." There were a lot of ams paying entry fees that day but no cash sales.
