Donald E. Westlake, dead at 75...

He was the author of one of my favorite series of books. If you haven't read them, please check out the Dortmunder series. They are the funniest crime-caper-gone-hilariously-wrong books you will ever read. There are thirteen novels (and one more to come in April) and a book of short stories about Dortmunder and his crew. Man, it really sucks to know that after the new book, there'll be no more adventures with John Archibald "Diddums" Dortmunder, Andy Kelp, "Tiny" Bulcher, Stan Murch, Arnie Albright, Murch's Mom, and May...

Here's a list of the books:
The Hot Rock (made into a movie with Robert Redford as Dortmunder)
Bank Shot (made into a movie with George C. Scott as Dortmunder)
Jimmy the Kid (made into a movie with Gary Coleman, but not as Dortmunder, as the kid)
Nobody's Perfect
Why Me (made into a movie with Christopher Lambert as Dortmunder)
Good Behavior
Drowned Hopes
Don't Ask
What's the Worst That Could Happen? (made into a movie with Martin Lawrence as Dortmunder)
Bad News
The Road to Ruin
Watch Your Back!
What's So Funny?
Get Real (coming in April)
Thieves' Dozen (short stories)

I also have read the following and they are also good:
The Ax
Humans
Put A Lid On It

So check him out, specifically the Dortmunder. They are hilarious and well worth your time and money.

FUN FACT: Firefly references Dortmunder in its pilot episode:

Also, Mal seems a bit Dortmunder-ish. What with the slight grumpiness and his thieving never really going right.
