Whoops

May 27, 2006 21:40

So, I slept a *wee* bit longer than I'd meant to. I got a load of laundry started and got caught up on LJ. By the time I was done catching up, the laundry was ready for the dryer. So, around 5:45 I put the clothes in the dryer and came upstairs for a much-needed nap.

Woke up around 7:15 pm I think, and went to start on the bread pudding. I looked through the recipe last night, and to sum it up it was essentially: "make the custard sauce, let it sit for 15 minutes, slice the bread, drench it in custard sauce, let it sit for 10-15 minutes, cover with the marmalade, cover with another layer of custard-soaked bread, bake in a hot water bath for 30-35 minutes."

So fine, I'm thinking it'll take about an hour to make the recipe.

Of course, I forgot that just heating up the milk & cream & vanilla bean part of the custard sauce was going to take about 10 minutes in and of itself because it had to be done slowly over a medium heat.

Fine, whatever.

So finally I get everything done around 8:30 and I have enough sauce to make a 9x13" pan of bread pudding plus an additional 8x8" pan of bread pudding. I put the larger one into the oven, but the wasn't room for the second panful (esp considering they are each sitting in a larger pan for the hot water bath). So, I bake the first batch, take it out and bake the second batch.

In the interim, between batches, I have of course discovered that Tigger (a la "The Pisher King) has taken it upon himself to piss on our bed once again. *sigh*

So, I stripped the bed, Starmaiden helped me put on some fresh sheets (it takes so much less time with two people, esp for a king sized bed!) and started a load of laundry. On the plus side, at least I discovered this now, rather than at 2 in the morning, yanno? So the bedspread and sheets will be clean and dry (I think they're almost ready to go in the dryer) when I come home, and it'll take about a minute to just put it on top of the bed.

Anyway, the bedroom door is closed now to keep the cats out. Rotten cat! I love him, but you'd think he'd know better by now.

Okay, off to head back over to minikin's, about 90 minutes later than I'd originally intended.

On the plus side, dinner will have been digested (Knight saved me a plate) and everyone will be all Oooohh.... bread pudding! by the time that I get there.

Gotta go. Back tomorrow!

friends, cats, food, house
