FRIDAY: I had the day off for Veteran's Day, which was lovely. Didn't do a whole lot - watched TV with the hubby, ran a few loads of laundry, swept the upstairs of the house, did a small amount of grocery shopping, and otherwise just relaxed. That's what holidays are for, right? I made a meatloaf and some au gratin potatoes (from a boxed mix) for supper - yum.
SATURDAY: Went to bed rather late, probably around 2:30 am, after getting my entry for
therealljidol posted earlier that evening. Woke up somewhere around 8:30 am - a bit sooner than expected. My cat, Kara, often sleeps in the bedroom with me, so when I rolled over saw her on hubby's side of the bed, doing that turn-around thing that most pets do before settling down, I didn't think much of it.
Then the smell hit me, and I realized that she'd squatted and was peeing! Aaaaah!
Not the best way to wake up in the morning, but very effective. I told her NO quite firmly, then swatted her on the rump, grabbed a bunch of paper towels and proceeded to clean up the mess after stripping the bed. Fortunately, she'd missed Knight's pillows entirely, and also missed getting any urine on the comforter, since it had been sleep rumpled, but needless to say the sheets and mattress pad - and yes, even the mattress - were soaked. *sigh*
So I cleaned it all up, sprayed the area down with some pet deodorizer, and let the mattress air dry while running another load of laundry. I told hubby what had happened when he got home from work, and after we ate some breakfast and got caught up on two episodes of Desperate Housewives, I popped over to WalMart and picked up a new mattress pad - a waterproof one, since ours hadn't been (duh).
Since the mattress seemed dry by the time I got back from the store, hubby helped me flip it and re-make the bed with fresh sheets. Needless to say, Kara was banned from the bedroom for the rest of that day, as well as last night once I went to bed (she was allowed in while we watched some TV). Dinner was comprised of Manwiches, served on onion rolls. Yum!
SUNDAY: Originally, Knight and I had been considering going out to IHOP for breakfast, but he was so exhausted when he got home from work that we stayed in and I made some eggnog pancakes from scratch. They were okay, but not as good as I'd hoped. I'd modified a recipe from my Paula Deen cookbook (which had called for using buttermilk) and merely replaced the buttermilk with the same quantity of eggnog. I think either I didn't use quite enough baking soda - the recipe didn't puff as much as I'd wanted - or something else was off. They were still tasty, though.
This afternoon, in addition to playing around on Facebook, I cooked seven hardboiled eggs. Four of them were mashed up into egg salad for lunch tomorrow, and the other three were elevated to the status of Deviled Eggs, which are currently in the fridge waiting for Knight to wake up. He loves deviled eggs, so he will be surprised that I made some!
Tomorrow, Knight and I will be having dinner with some friends at Texas Roadhouse right after I get off work. Not much else going on at present. Ciao!
