An Evening of Bluegrass & Banjo

For those who are curious, the concert that Knight and I attended yesterday evening with Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers was AWESOME. The music was fantastic - even better than I'd anticipated - and there was also some comedy between songs, mostly while Steve was tuning one of his four banjos, LOL.

The Steep Canyon Rangers - who Steve stated he "prefers to not think of as his backup band," but rather considers himself to be "their celebrity" was composed of a fantastic fiddler, a second banjoist, a bass, a mandolin player, and a guitarist.

According to Steve, one of the benefits to traveling with a bluegrass band was that there was no drummer. One of the negatives to not having a drummer was no weed, LOL.

I think my favorite song of theirs was "Atheists Don't Have No Songs", with "Jubilation Day" being a close second. The final song in their encore was a bluegrass rendition of Steve's classic, "King Tut."

Totally worthwhile! So much so that I even downloaded their CD, "Rare Bird Alert" to my phone's iPod last night, LOL.

If you ever get a chance to see Steve Martin - An Evening of Bluegrass and Banjo in your area, I highly encourage you to do so!
