We had a good time down in Chattanooga this past weekend. We tried to have a late lunch at the restaurant called Soup's On, but apparently they were closed for the weekend to do some upgrades or somesuch, so we headed over to Aretha Frankenstein's (
http://www.arethas.com) for lunch instead. The food was good, although the cheese grits didn't agree with me. Ah well.
disheveledhair tried a short stack of their pancakes. There were only two pancakes, but they were each about 1" thick - they looked more like regular cakes than pancakes! I didn't try them, as I was full from my waffle, but they looked delicious.
With the exception of getting to Rock City just in time for a mid afternoon downpour to strike, the weather was quite good. Fortunately, the Rock City folks gave everyone a free rain poncho, and we huddled in one of their eateries until the rain let up enough for us to go through the Enchanted Trail. The rock formations were awesome, although there were a few tight squeezes here and there. It drizzled off and on, but by the time we were maybe halfway through the trail the rain had stopped completely.
After meandering through the shops we went to the Starbucks and picked up some beverages for the drive back to the hotel.
We ate dinner that evening at Red Lobster - yum!
The following day, we attempted to go to the local MoonPie General Store in downtown Chattanooga. The store was supposed to open at 11:00 am, and we actually got there a little early. Alas, there was a snafu - the clerk who arrived at 11 apparently did not have a key. He made some calls, and we waited around until about 11:40, but decided we couldn't wait any longer since we had to drive up to Etowah for the Hiwassee River Trail train trip, which was at least an hour drive away. No MoonPie memorabilia for us! *sadface*
The train ride - although devoid of any sort of phone/internet signal - was fun. It was about a 3.5 hour ride. Fortunately, I had a book with me that I got to finish reading, so that was something at least.
Afterwards, we drove up to Knoxville and had a late supper at Fuddrucker's. We arrived back home around 11:30 on Sunday night.
Yesterday evening, Knight and I went to see the Green Lantern movie, and it was good.
Tonight we're going to see Steve Martin for An Evening of Bluegrass and Banjo. He's an avid banjo player, so I'm sure it'll be quite fun!
Not much else going on right now. Ciao!
