art scares me, artists too, just coz everything we don't understand scares us and there is one particular thing about artists that i do not undersand. i realy don't understand just HOW artists support themselves. i feel kinda cheated that some people have been labeled "artists" and taken up the role, because i can't see how it could possibly be a

The idea of being an artist "scares" me too. I say "scares" becuase I'm not planning on becoming one myself it's just the idea... I do think artwork is important as well though, but it's odd how they can be supported and how it can be their sole occupation when they're not actually producing something to live. So that means other people toil longer so that there is extra for these people to live and produce art.

I also like what you said about elitism. It's interesting because it's like people are forced to internalize the idea of winners and loosers and to judge themselves and other people accordingly. I was sort of competitive as a kid and I really don't like that about myself but I think it's odd, I think that I don't really have the social skills to navigate a world of equals. I feel like I just know enough to see power dynamics and fall in line because I feel so socially incompetent sometimes. Of course no one ever changed anything by falling in line, heh.

So, maybe it's just about competition for resources. You think if you're a "winner" you'll have an evolutionary advantage, and as it is natural selection is often explained in terms of winners and loosers. Although, at least now, more people are having more children than rich people. So by winning in life they are loosing in the evolutionary sense. which is an interesting way to look at it.

well maybe not equals. just... not being nasty to one another as a way of compensating.

i mean ppl can be really nasty to me, and then i can surprise them by tearing their head off. Why do they have to be so nasty :(. Do i really have to put on a threatening persona so that other people won't annoy me? Why can't people just not attack anyone. i have better things to be doing than firing people into space (Girly comic reference).

edit: i guess i used to feel socially incompetent, but now i think more that there is a problem with the world if i don't fit in, not a problem with me :)
