It is hard to believe that I am sitting here in the dark of the morning, waking up, watching the sun rise and getting ready to get the girls off for their last day of school. Although I am very very much anticipating the lack of a schedule this coming Thursday and Friday, it is also a bittersweet day.
I have to admit to being a bit of a sentimental sap. For me, the First and Last days of school hold them same sort of significance as a minor holiday. They are life markers, the unavoidable trackers of time.
There used to be the days of last day of school PTO cookouts, parties and teacher gifts. Now we are sunk into the final day of finals, and stressing over seeing boyfriends less frequently. We will still mark the significance of the day with a special breakfast and something fun this evening. Tomorrow will be the opening of Pool season ( since it rained over the Memorial Day weekend, and they were studying for finals), and we will go out to dinner with friends at an odd hour- something that requires no set schedule at all.
How do you celebrate the end of the school year? When is your year over??
