► Yesterday certainly was a full day, if I may say so. From the apartment to
Michael's and
PetSmart on the North end of town, on to my grandmother's on the West end, then downtown to the bank and comic book shop, back to my grandmother's, then up around to
Bulk Barn on down to
Walmart and finally
Food Basics before finally heading back to the apartment. That sure was a lot of running around.
Given how much I had to do and get, it's not surprising that there were some goof-ups. For example, I forget to get more kitty litter but I still have a third of a box and that should last a couple of weeks, so there's no rush. Also, at Michael's I bought a portable artboard only to find that there's a split in the bottom that trails up about an inch and a half, but it's not too bad. At least, not enough that I want the hassle of bringing it back to exchange it. The last goof up occurred at Walmart. I bought two DVDs, one for $5 (
The Green Hornet) and one for $10 (
Paranormal Activity 3). It wasn't until later that night when I glance at the receipt that I discovered I wasn't charged for both, but instead had been charged for one twice. Not surprisingly the double charge was for the $10 DVD. I haven't decided whether I'm going to bother bringing the receipt and DVDs back when I go next week to get it corrected, since it's only a $5 difference.
Of the good things that happened, at the comic book store I picked up a new
Superman action figure from
Mattel of
the New 52 Superman costume, and a
Superman bank. The figure is still in the package and set aside, but the bank is sitting atop my large bookcase. I just love getting Superman stuff.
At Michael's I was going to buy an art portfolio for my art collection, and Dad was going to buy me that drawing board saying it would be my birthday present. Before we headed to the checkout, however, he grabbed the more expensive portfolio from out of my hands and handed me the drawing board. He insisted I use the board to get back into drawing, but I haven't yet. Shocking, I know.
Speaking of Dad, at PetSmart they had several cats including a 6 month old female kitten that had been spayed. Looking at her through the glass partition, I jokingly said to Dad that I was considering adopting her. To say he didn't like that idea would be an understatement. After we left the store and got back to the car I had a nice little lecture regarding my barely surviving on a meager pension and my being well below the poverty line. I did point out that while I may want a second cat, I know and would not get one because I'm only just managing with one cat and couldn't afford the upkeep of two. It'll remain one of my "when I'm rich" pipe dreams.

FrontPageMag: DNC Erecting Creepy Giant Obama Sculpture - I only heard of this because a friend of a friend is outraged over
Obama's ego in erecting the sculpture. If I had to guess I'd say the friend of a friend is a
Republican.Derek: and isn't it common for rallies in the US that the president is attending to have art and displays celebrating the president?
Derek: it's a fucking sand sculpture, ____ is reacting as if they're carving Obama out of marble and replacing the Lincoln monument or adding him to Mount Rushmore
Dran: I don't know for sure. I don't care to watch political rallies. But it's a rally to make people want to vote for a guy. I'm sure he's depicted most of the time. :-)
Dran: haha
Dran: More specifically if Obama issued a presidential order to do that.
Derek: right

IndieWire: Ryan Gosling To Make 'Monster' Directorial Debut With Christina Hendricks - I'm surprised that
Gosling would chose to make a his directorial debut with a fantasy film, albeit a dark noir fantasy film. It just sounds completely unlike any of the films he's acted in so far, but I suppose that could be the appeal.

IGN: Doctor Who Series 7 Posters To Feast Your Eyes On - I don't care what people think, and I've heard complaints from friends about the new series already, but
Doctor Who with dinosaurs on a spaceship? That's just awesome.
