► It's after 5:30 Saturday afternoon and I only just woke up around 40 minutes ago. I had gone to bed very late last night but I started having a panic attack and it took a good 4 or 5 hours before I finally drifted off into the welcoming bosom of unconsciousness.
I find it interesting how my panic attacks have evolved over the years. They're no longer as terrifyingly intense as they were when I was younger, but are generally more overwhelming and sinisterly encompassing. It's like slowly sinking into cold water and then slowly drowning.

JUSTICE LEAGUE #3 Brings Five Changes to the DC Universe [Spoilers] - From chat:Derek: Superman kills now? ugh
Matt: Yeah, that's what I thought you'd say
Since the
September reboot of the DC Comics line, while he does have some definite personality changes, the
Superman in
Grant Morrison's
Action Comics and
George Perez's
Superman titles has still remained essentially Superman (albeit more morose than usual in Perez's issues). It just stuns me that it's
Geoff Johns of all people (in
Justice League) who's been writing Superman most un-Superman-like. Granted this is just the start of the first story, and I'm probably overstating things, but Johns' characterization of Superman just seems "off".
The reason it's so shocking to me is Johns is one of the 2 or 3 modern writers who most "gets" Superman as a character and symbol, and he wrote a glorious run with the character from 2006 to 2010. Is he purposely writing him like this as a criticism of the changes? When the reboot was announce and fans started to panic, a lot of people tried to calm things by assuring that Geoff Johns, being a big wig at DC now and a super fan of the characters and history of the comics, would be there to make sure no one destroyed anything. I believed it at the time, but as more of the changes started being announced and the books were released, I really do not see Johns fingerprints anywhere on the
DCnU.
For the record, I'm just thinking out loud, and speculating. I haven't read the above issue in question yet, and as I said it's just the start of the first story arc and Superman killing the
Parademons can easily be explained in the next issue by their being revealed as not living beings. Wait and see.

Quote of the Moment
Captain Marvel: My whole life, I've looked up to the League. You were my heroes. Every one of you. [to Superman] And you, you were more than a hero. I idolized you. I wanted to be you. Whenever I was out there, facing down the bad guys, I'd think, "What would Superman do?" Now I know.
