Weather Or Not

Dec 13, 2010 22:14

► Since I have to go out tomorrow I didn't eat today. Starting to feel it. While I'm always over anxious the day before going out, I'm a bit more worried about tomorrow. We're supposed to have mild weather this week but it's been snowing steadily all day and shows no sign of stopping. It's the kind of light powdery snow that doesn't stay on the ground, as the wind keeps whipping it back up. It's basically a haze of white.

Actually, that's all a lie. The weather has nothing to do with my being so anxious about tomorrow. That's all me and my neuroses.

► So much for the Amazon.com DVD sale. The US Amazon has definitely raised their shipping and handling (and newfangled "import") rates to Canada since the summer. I got my order down to $42 only to find it would cost more than $30 to ship. Well past my $50 limit. I canceled the order.

The disappointment was compounded by Amazon.ca only have 2 of the DVDs available, and both for over $15 (far cry from the $5.50 sale on the US site). Figuring I could still order something I decided to look for a few tradepaperbacks. The 4 I was interested in were all unavailable from Amazon, but I noticed that they were being sold at cheap prices by some outside stores through the site. Since my ordering those mini movie posters through the site from another store was so successful, I decided to give it a shot. I found the 4 books I wanted through a shop in Delaware (with a 97% rating). Unfortunately the shipping and handling for each book is $6.59, and works out to roughly $25 while the books themselves totaled only $23. I decided that altogether it was under my $50 cap, and worked out to $12.50 (give or take) for each book. Since the books aren't available to me through other sources, and would cost quite a bit more if I was able to find them in a store, I placed the order. Hopefully this works out all right.

I ordered:► Superman: Ending Battle
Superman: Strange Attractors
Superman: Camelot Falls, Vol 1
Superman: Camelot Falls, Vol 2

Derek: still on my Superman kick
Matt: You? Noooooo
► This morning I finally got around to calling the social worker I saw a few weeks ago. My case was going to be reviewed last Tuesday and I was to call after that day to find out what the decision was. After putting off calling for almost a week I decided to do it today. Turns out they had such a full docket last week, they didn't get to my case file. She said that my case is going to be presented tomorrow.

I have no idea what to expect from all of this. Honestly, I'm mostly doing this out of a general feeling that I should be doing something.

Carrie Fisher Says Everyone Knows John Travolta is Gay - Oh you! This is why we love Carrie Fisher, no filter. Well, that, and the slave girl outfit of course.

Massive Canadian melt may have triggered flood of biblical proportions - Hey, world, sorry about that biblical flood. This does bring up a question, though. If the biblical flood originated in Canada, does that mean God is a Canadian?

Photo: "Avatar" Weddings are Creepy and Pathetic - I think the couples deserve what they get. Or rather, don't get.

What Was Wrong With 2010′s Movies? - From the article:'This year looks set to be the first in four years not to break records in terms of box office receipts, despite price hikes for IMAX and 3D movies. How did this happen - and what can be done to make sure it doesn’t happen again next year?

According to the Hollywood Reporter, this year’s box office take is currently estimated to be 3% down on last year - the first fall for four years, despite tickets costing on average 4.7% more than they did in 2009. Obviously, that means that less people are going to the movies this year, but why?'
It's called the worst economic crisis/recession since the Great Depression. Also, when was it decided Iron Man 2 was awful? Sure it wasn't as good as the first, but I found it entertaining enough.

Olivia Wilde (at the Tron: Legacy Premiere in LA, December 11, 2010) gives me a Danny Boyle.

Quote of the Moment

Narrator: The guitar as we know it today, came about as a result of many types of earlier stringed instruments. There was first the harp, the lute, then the zither, and mandolin. The guitar is a very sensitive instrument, with "G" being the third string, and is played over a system of frets. Sensitive men have been fretting over G-strings for years!
