Tuesday night my computer kept freezing up and then crashed. Since then, each time I boot up the computer it freezes within minutes. The only thing that doesn't is the mouse pointer. As far as I can tell (before the freeze) there's no program running in the background in the task manager. There's not enough time between boot up and freeze to do any proper scans for viruses, worms or trojans so I don't know what's causing the problem.
I thought that it might be overheating because we were in a heat wave with record temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday (yesterday) but the heat broke in the middle of the night and the computer is still freezing up. If I can get out tomorrow or Saturday I'll try to get some compressed air to clean out the CPU tower and see if that helps. If not, I'll have to just resign myself and bring the computer to the shop on Monday or Tuesday and hope they can fix the problem without any drastic system changes.
I hate bringing my computer to the shop. Who likes having strangers go through their seemingly endless collection of porn? Feels like being judged. And I probably am.
Friggin' depressed this week. Bleah.
