► Note: I was going to post the
Utopia sketch
SatyQ drew and emailed to me Thursday night, but I think I'll wait for my next journal entry. Bleah...
► Goddammit!
Post I just stumbled onto from July on Cliff Rathburn's blog. The electro-magnetic free floating hand just seems an awful lot like
my character Lady Ace (who I created last year), who I posted back in June.
I know, this is all just likely coincidence, but dammit, it disappoints me. I've no idea if this drawing by Rathburn is intended to be a published comic or not. Honestly, I just feel a little crushed, as I thought her magno-fist was a cool, unique and visually striking idea. Eh... maybe I should drop the character.
Oddly enough, this isn't the first time this has happened to me. From 2001 to 2004 I had posted images of a character I created for an earlier incarnation of my
Bush League team. This character was a female vigilante in a green and brown costume, carrying a staff as a weapon and with an unusual cowl split down the center exposing her ponytailed dark hair. I drew and posted a portrait of her to my old erotic comic art forum (ECC) back in 2002 (along with other sketches and even some micros). Later I posted the portrait to my
DeviantART gallery in January of 2004.
The character was named Manhunter, in homage to the
1986 film thriller.
That fall
DC Comics debuted a new staff wielding vigilante woman, with an unusual cowl exposing her ponytailed hair. Her name?
Manhunter.
Just for fun, here are thumbnails of artwork some artists friends on ECC created of my Manhunter in 2002 and 2003. I miss Manhunter, she was one of my major characters. Edit: I suppose I could revive her and change her name.

► Regarding labels, and how what's acceptable changes with each generation:Derek: I'm sure some people would call me racist because I use the term "black"
Derek: and I also refer to "Native Americans" as Indians
KimW: Indeed.... hang on let me find something.
Derek: the idea that Columbus called the peoples of the Americas "Indian" because he thought he was in India is a lie
Derek: India at the time was Persia
Derek: he called the people "in Dios"
Derek: "of God"
KimW: LOL
Derek: now what's so wrong with that?
KimW: Heheheh
Edit (November 10, 2009): Hindustan. India was called Hindustan.
