Dress Code

This is the “I don’t start my job until the second week of class, so I will still write blog posts and hope no one notices.”
It may be surprising to learn, but I have never needed to dress business casual in my life. After ten years of dental hygiene I have a dresser full of scrubs just sitting there not being worn. I didn’t seem to realize until after my first interview that yeah, I need to get some work appropriate clothing.
I am not a shoe person. I wear Converse. I wore Converse with my scrubs all these years. I own three pair of heels and I hate wearing heels. I can’t really walk in them. I will need to walk the warehouse at work twice a day. There is no way I am going to able to do this in heels. I tried to see if I could get away with wearing dressy flip-flops. Nope. I need to wear close toed shoes. So for the first time ever I went out and bought 2 pairs of ballad flats. Meh, they’re okay I guess.
Second problem, I’m covered in tattoos down the left side of my body. Oh yeah, business offices don’t nothing like for you to have tattoos hanging out all over the place. So I began the great blazer search of 2013. I’ve had tattoos for many years. When I wore scrubs I simply wore a long sleeves undershirt underneath my scrub top. They were super cheap and I would buy them at Rue 21 for like 5 bucks. The undershirt trick isn’t going to work here. So I've been buying blazers, blouses, whatever I can that looks nice, matches my wardrobe, and covers my arms. The fact that this is the summer time, I have a feeling that I won’t be fooling anyone and they will suspect I am covering up something with all these long sleeves. However, I decided that I wouldn’t even ask what their policy was on tattoos, I will just assume it’s a no-no and be the good little worker from day one and keep covered.
