I am working with
Gabriel Brothers. Its a small world. Gabriel Brothers is a privately own company that started in Uniontown, Pa, my hometown. I have been shopping at Gabe's since I was little. Gabe's has been known for selling defective, and overstock clothing. Growing up it was common knowledge that you had to check every piece of clothing at Gabe's to make sure one arm wasn't longer than the other. I still remember my mom finding me a real suede jacket for like 10 bucks at Gabe's. The only thing wrong with it was a slight open seam in the armpit, took my mum a second to fix. I never told anyone it came from Gabe's.
Gabe's main competition is TJ Maxx. Due to competing with them, Gabe's no longer wants to be the defective clothing store. They are now moving away from that and working more toward getting overstock from more high end stores.
While working at Gabe's I will be a Merchandising Assistant for their children's department. I will be working along side the Children's Buyer and the Assistant Buyer. Since Gabe's is trying to move away from defects one of my jobs will be to help walk the warehouse and look over our stock. We want to make sure it is not defective and it priced accordingly. We also want to make sure we received everything we ordered or everything we were promised.
I will also be doing clerical work. I'll be making phone calls, checking on orders, asking about orders. I will also help keep the buyers area tidy.
My big responsibility will be taking care of things while the Assistant Buyer and the Buyer are away on business. Gabe's is all about getting a product out fast and Children's ware is fast paced in general. If the buyer needs to go to New York, they do not want any product delays because she is missing. Therefore, I will be the voice of the buyer in her absence.
