ART: "A Bedtime Story" for Cap reverse BB (Sam Wilson, MCU)

Jun 07, 2017 04:53

---> following my previous post, FINALLY, I also participated in the Cap Reverse Big Bang as an artist, and made digital art for the first time. The fic that was written for the art was:

A Bedtime Story (MCU, 5200 words, Sam/Steve/Bucky, gen) - Sam, Steve, and Bucky tells their kids the story of how their family came to be.

Thumbnail! I haven't done this in such a long time I don't remember what thumbnails are for.

And here is the art below the cut, or here on tumblr:

(I also have this in huge resolution but it... doesn't seem quite necessary.)

I am really happy with how this turned out overall although WOW was it harder and more work than I expected. The lineart took a long time, which I knew it would, but after that I figured that coloring would come easy? Especially digitally, especially if I just did some basic colors and a line of shade like I see a lot on tumblr? HA HA HA god no. It took forever, and I have so much to learn. I bow before tumblr artists, seriously. Like, I do like the way the colors turned out in the end, but to not deceive yourselves that I chose those colors by design. once I knew the author wrote this as a bedtime story, I'd intended to set the scene at night, in warm bedroom lit by a bedside lamp, shades of brown and orange and a yellow glow.

I tried. I had no idea where to start. Even after the more than an hour it took me to finally settle on colors for the kids' clothes, I was like, okay, I have basic colors, now how do I create atmosphere?

No idea. Instead, I have the color palette of a Simon game.

I mean, I loved the experience, and I learned a lot, and I honestly do like the final product, but man do I have much to learn :-)
