Really, what I need to do is get out of this mental block that says that every time I post I need to summarize everything that's happened in my life since I last posted. Because that just keeps growing and growing and then I end up never posting anything at all.
A lot of things have happened and a lot of things are happening in the country (haha FLAMES AND KNIVES BASICALLY ugh), but mostly what I want to ask is which one of you is watching The Mindy Project and who would like to write me Mindy/Danny for
yuletide because <3___<3. God, romcom sitcom ships, Mindy Kaling knows how to work them just right, I ship them so hard.
I watched the first 1-2 episodes back when it premiered in 2012, and it didn't really grab me, so I dropped it at that point. But after hearing some recs, and hearing that the new season 4 premiers with a cute Joseph Gordon-Levitt cameo, I decided to watch that episode, which was... pretty cute! So after another current episode, I just jumped into the middle of season 1 - the same place I started Brooklyn 99 from, because it sometimes it takes single cam comedies time to get into their groove - and I've spent the last few days just marathoning the show from there whenever I could. I'm now in the beginning of season 3 and I'm just so into Mindy and Danny. Like - the show isn't perfect, obviously (if anyone wants specific warnings I'll give whatever I can), but I love so much about the two of them. Amazingly, AO3 has around 700 Mindy/Danny fics, a significant amount of which are WIP AUs whose quality I am, er, dubious of. So if anyone has any actual recs for fic about these two, please, please do let me know.
I... really hope this makes it to yuletide, since it looks like ff.net has over 500 fics oh god what if ff.net ruins this for me ////o\\\ GO AWAY FF.NET, you and your endless chaptered works :(
Other fandoms I've nominated were:
1) A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014), because... I honestly cannot recall right now, it was cute, I just rewatched it, I like western parodies.
2) Florida Panthers RPF - because despite RPF being the heartbreakingly WORST and I should protect myself by avoiding it forever probably, I recently read some really good Aaron Ekblad/Willie Mitchell/Megan Mitchell fic and then read everything else about that pairing in AO3 because I am... so very much into their fictional dynamic. The very small handful of fics that are this fandom are basically based around this article from a few months ago, which is delightful.
3) Straight Shooter - Heidi Belleau - this is the hockey slash/kink novel I read over the summer (
marina's full rec here), which - I would read many, many more thousands of words in this universe, so hopefully yuletide will deliver. Coincidentally, or as much as these things can be a coincidence, the Ekblad/Mitchell dynamic in the fic I recced above is very, very similar to the Austin/Liam dynamic in this book.
Other fandoms I will likely request if I can: UnREAL, Sense8, Killjoys, Hamilton, and the aforementioned Mindy Project *fingers crossed*. I was not expecting this what with being so heavily into hockey/Blackhawks in the past year, but it looks like I actually do have fandoms I'm legit enthusiastic to receive fic for. So - excitement! That's coming up.
I do wonder if Discworld will be an eligible fandom this year. I always feel like no matter how many fics it has on the AO3, yuletide should include some kind of Discworld Exception, but I guess we will see.
ETA: I am listening to the 2014 Rocky: the Musical cast album recording, which was one of the weird/dumbest musicals I have ever seen, and Rocky's New York/Italian accent is totally hot to me right now because it reminds me of Danny Castellano /o\ HELP.
