We knew it was comin' for awhile now, but it's always a shock when someone like the Pope dies. He was...a great man, although my family was never one to hang the Pope's pictures on the wall like family. I mean, Mom is not even Catholic; she's UMC (United Methodist) and I think Carlee might be following her lead. So me and Dad are the lone holdouts for Catholicism, although even I am confirmed in the Methodist church (don't go there often, though - it's a little too liberal for my tastes.) But even so, everyone - Mom included - trucked over to St Michael's, the Catholic church. We also went collectively there today for service. It was just packed, all the people who only come out for holidays. Kinda nice, we don't usually get the whole family together for service, excepting holidays.
The Pope's done great stuff, but I won't bore you all. Just that he made it okay for young people to be proud of their faith again. So now we can only wait to see his successor.
And after that, in a sign of the times I think, we went shopping. By "we", y'know, I mean me and Carlee. It was almost a flashback to high school, when I was 18 and driving her EVERYWHERE, except back then she was 11, and now she's actually my friend (cause at age 11, I practically wanted to push her out of the vehicle at any given point - anyone with younger siblings will understand, m'sure). There was a new sports place in town, real nice. She needed new shoes. New freakin' shoes and she's 15 and still growing - I think she's 6'1 now. What happened to my little sister? Almost as big as me.
Basketball's been okay, s'far as my brackets are concerned. Although I had to deal with Plax bitchin' to me for like an hour cause of MSU, and to John, I'm sorry they lost. Oh, and Plax says he remembers you, just cause you were both drafted in the same year. Although he wasn't too complimentary of the hockey team - but that doesn't surprise me. *smirks* Team's a little too white for his tastes.
Back to Pittsburgh tomorrow. Bein' away for a week just means there's loads to do when I get home. Back to normal schedule cause I didn't go to the Middle East - workouts, unofficial practice, starin' at game tape for 3 hours. But I get to pick up my puppy! So it's all good. Wonder if I can fit in catchin' Sin City, too. That movie looks awesome. And Jessica Alba as a stripper? I'll kiss whoever did that casting, honestly. Anyone see it yet?
