I figured it out
It's because romance is a construction of the patriarchy1 that "love" feels like something that can only happen with the opposite gender. You don't get all the social reinforcement with your own. - Handwriting can be used as a kind of spell - Y/N? (Spell is defined here as "something that makes another person feel something from afar when you are not actually there".)
