Fun B-Day Weekend...

Aug 14, 2006 18:23

Well. another year of life is over with, and another has just begun. Been in pretty good spirits and mood all weekend for the most part which is a pleasant surprise. I half figured that I would be a little depressed and everything since the plans I originally had for this weekend fell through due to the fact that Phyll and I broke up. But the alternate plans I made up were a lot of fun though, so it wasn't too bad.

Saturday
Saturday was my friend Jasons wedding, but it was around 8 in the morning and Bloomington is a 2 and 1/2 hour drive away, so I wasn't able to go to it. And even though I am doing much, much better since the break up, a wedding would be depressing for me (although Mike pointed out that it would be a great place to meet chicks *lol*, but I'm not quite ready to start dating just yet).

So I decided not to go to Jasons wedding, and go up to the Niaobi Zoo up near the Quad Cities (especially since it was free admission weekend!!). So I had a lot of fun running around the zoo for a couple of hours. The weather was almost perfect, sunny around 80 degrees with a nice cool breeze. It was a little crowded (go figure *lol*), but I timed it just right so that the early morning "opening rush" crowd was leaving when I got there. So although it was busy and crowded, it wasn't intolerable. All the animals were out and playing and I got to see the Cougar and Jaguar this time around, so that is always a good thing! I ran around and enjoyed myself at the zoo for a couple of hours then ran up to Southpark mall and traded in some of my old video games and bought "Jaws- Unleashed" for the X-box for about $10 bucks after trade ins. I also used some early birthday money to get "Big Trouble in Little China" and the Action double feature combo "Showdown in Little Tokyo"/"Bloodsport". If anyone has ever seen these three movies... you'll know why I got them *lol*. Cheesy, Cheesy, Cheeeeeeeesy goodness my friends. I may have to write a little review for the uninitiated a little later, but needless to say these movies are so bad they are good.

Well, after my little shopping spree, I went over to Sakura's for Lunch. Sakura's is a great little Sushi/Habachi grill resturant right next to Southpark Mall. I went in and got some wonderful lunch, and even found something that I didn think existed except in my imagination.

Like they always say, the best ideas have all already been done before, and a while back in this post http://rodshark.livejournal.com/22661.html?mode=reply
I came up with a dish that I called "The Epic of Gilgamesh" and was essentially a shitload of food in a wooden boat shaped platter. Well guess what I found at Sakura's?? Thats right their lunch special came on a large wooden boat and you could order 1 item from each of the three lunch combos. It basically amounted to 1 Appetizer, 1 Sushi roll, and 1 Tempura or Teryiaki dish along with fried rice, miso soup, and a small garden salad on the wooden boat. I got the Gyoza (pork dumplings), Tuna roll, and Shrimp Tempura along with an deep fried Calamari appetizer. Needless to say I feasted well and left a very full and satisfied Rodshark! *lol*. After that I headed home and watched cheesy movies and played Jaws until I eventually went to sleep.

Sunday
Sunday was pretty much my Birthday with the family. My mom and dad made me tuna noodle cassarole for Dinner, and baked a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and chocolate ice cream (yes, I like chocolate *lol*). So that was very tasty. Got some money from the folks and some scratch off lottery tickets from my brother Bill(unfortunatly didn't win anything except a couple of free tickets, but hopefully I will win something when I trade them in). But stayed ther and hung out with the family for a while and then headed home.

Thats about it... enjoyed my weekend since I figured that I would have to work and help Richard out today. It would have been nice to have some birthday lovings and everything this weekend, but oh well, I'll just have to stay horny I guess*lol*. But at least I have been getting Happy Birthdays and well-wishes from all my friends offline and on here, so thank you to everyone who has ben wishing my happy Birthday, I really appreciate it!
