The meme and questions: Comment and I'll LJ stalk you to find three fandoms you apparently love. And then you answer these questions about them!
01: What got you into this fandom in the first place?
02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?
The fandoms I got from
melloniel and my answers
LOTR
01: I read the books in 1984 and was eagerly awaiting the movies. Seeing the first movie and me taking my first steps on the internet coincided and that's where I found the online fandom. Early 2002 I dived in headfirst and have moved from one fandom to another since then, but at first it was LOTR only for a couple of years. Well, that and the closely related Lotrips...
02: I'll keep on reading the books and loving the movies, I'm still following the careers of the actors from a distance and I'm still feeling a connection with the fellow fans I got to know back then. But I'm not into the fandom anymore, I've moved on, looking back at that time with fond nostalgia.
03: The books and movies themselves of course.
04: My participation consisted mostly of squeeing, happy flailing (and sometimes not so happy flailing), thanking people for sharing clips, pics, fics etc, reading loads of fanfic and reccing those.
05: I highly recommend the books and the movies to anyone who hasn't read and/or seen them already, but not so much starting in the fandom now.
SGA
01: I'd already moved from LOTR and Lotrips to some other fandoms, most prominently Due South and The Sentinel and through these fandoms I'd found
cesperanza. At some point she linked to
merryish's SGA fanvid 'Hello'. It's the first thing I ever saw of the series and I loved the movement in the clips she used. It made me buy the first season and loved every bit of it.
02: I'm still hoping the SGA fandom will bounce back to the same level SG-1 is still an active fandom. At this point there isn't much fandom going on for me to stay in so maybe I'll be forced to move on.
03: The first 3 seasons are still a delight. Most of season 4 and a handful of episodes from season 5, although they buggered up so horribly there that it takes most of the fun out of of the good episodes too.
04: There's not so much going on now, but I love reading fics, leaving feedback and reccing. And this fandom has some of the most brilliant vids I've seen: The series is very inspiring that way!
05: At this point I'd say; don't bother.
Merlin
01: The series had just started when I was visiting
loreley_se in the UK so we watched episode 6 as it aired that weekend and a couple of the earlier episodes that are online available on the BBC site in the UK. When I got home I immediately torrented those episodes and watched the other episodes as they aired. It's the combination the boys and the fandom that got me hooked big time; there's something incredibly sweet about both!
02: This fandom has years of potential ahead. It's still adorable and friendly and relatively small. As long as it stays like this I'm in :D
03: More than specific episodes (although I do have my favorites) there are certain moments that are my favorites and all my favorite moments center around Merlin; when he's being an incredible dork, when he's optimistic against all odds, when he's throwing longing looks at Arthur, when he's angry or frustrated, when he's flirty omg...
And every second of every kind of behind the scenes footage, from interviews and con moments that are available, reports, pics, vids and whatnot of the boys together or apart, I adore those. I'm in this fandom for the guys, the fics, the vids. For Arthur/Merlin and for Bradley/Colin. And I'm so in it for Colin Morgan.
04: I read and squee and try my best to write feedback that's more than just 'loved it, thanks' (although that's certainly better than writing nothing). The whole reccing business still isn't what I'd like it to be, but there's only so much time one can spend on-line alas.
05: Oh yessssss! I roll around in my sweet, sweet fandom and highly recommend it. On the other hand I'm selfishly hoping this fandom will stay as intimate as it is now.
