Been playing around with some software recently (see previous mail re security software), and thought I'd mention a couple of cool things:
- Opera Mini 4: still in beta, but now working really nicely on my Nokia e61. Pretty much gives me full web access on the phone. So far it's handled everything I've thrown at it, and it seems incredibly fast for a phone app. If your phone runs Java, get this. You can even download it directly to your phone if it already has a WAP or web browser: just point it at operamini.com. Also has the best iPhone pisstake video I've seen in ages.
- On the subject of phones, if you have a smartphone you absolutely must have Google Maps for Mobile. This thing has saved my life so many times already. It runs like a dream, and it's like having a GPS built-in without any extra hardware needed. There are a bunch of other useful Google apps as well at http://mobile.google.com. Oh my god, just went there and they finally added a mobile Google Calendar setup! My life is complete. Speaking of which...
- Lightning: this is still in beta too, but it seems relatively stable so far. It's a calendar add on for Mozilla Thunderbird that gives it Outlook style functionality, To Do lists etc.. Very nice, but coupled with...
- Provider for Google Calendar: this gives Lightning the ability to sync with Google Calendars you control. I pretty much run everything via Google Calendar these days, so this is pretty damn useful.
