"You done yet?" Colby asked, sitting on the bed. There's only so many times I can check the equipment while I wait.
"You in a hurry?" Nikki called back from the bathroom.
"I'm just saying, Edgerton would've been done by now."
Her reply wasn't audible, but then she said, more clearly than that, "Charlie better be right about this," Nikki muttered as she walked out of the bathroom into the bedroom, looking for all the world like she was only wearing a pair of platypus-patterned baggy shorts and an oversized sweatshirt that read, 木 GRADUATE...and below the swell of breasts, in small print, !ia ia!.
"Where'd you get that?" Colby asked.
"What makes you think it isn't mine?" Nikki asked.
Colby said nothing.
"Matt's sister loaned it to me," Nikki said.
"Bloom would be proud of you."
"Bloom would've set you up first."
"Nah," Colby said. "I've met Matt's sister; she's more David's type."
"Stickler for rules?"
"Bald."
Nikki chuckled. That done, "You want first shift tonight?" The idea was to alternate who was sleeping and who was manning the surveilance equipment - but in clothes you'd expect to be in if someone was at the door or the house started to burn down.
"Sure," Colby said, and didn't get up.
"What?"
"How is it you don't have a shirt of your own to wear to bed?" Colby asked.
Nikki looked him dead in the eye and told him, "You do not want me to answer that," and mock-punched his arm.
