Clearly mind-blowing sex was not going to be on the table for a while. "She used you, Nick," a light Barremian breeze ruffling her short-shorn hair.
"Yes, Helen, I know," Nick said. "Doesn't change the fact that -"
"That what? You had feelings for her?"
"Yes, as a matter of fact, I did. I did have feelings for Claudia Brown."
"She was a lackey, Nick, a loyal servant of Christine Johnson."
"I never said my feelings weren't complicated."
Helen strangled her next words in her throat, and instead turned around to look over the place that would become the Weald. Watching the local fauna move helped her focus her thoughts, and therefore her words. "When I was being held by Johnson, you could have left, you could have taken up with Claudia Brown, you could have -"
"Aye, I could've," Nick said, standing and coming over to stand behind her, placing his hands on her hips - sliding around her belly - to reassure her. "But I didn't. I wouldn't."
"Ah yes, because you're complicated," Helen said, using his earlier words.
"Would you have me any other way?" nuzzling her neck.
Don't even need to think that over. "No."
