NEW YORK CITY:
The plane had been uneventful; the rental agency remarkably hassle-free; and lucking upon a friend who would be happy to let Megan use her house while she was out of state, perfect serendipity. Right now, she was stretched out on the sofa in the living room, soaking in all the sunlight from the window, and knowing exactly whom she wanted to dream about.
But the knocking at the front door, that put a crimp in her plans.
"Go away," she muttered into her pillow, not wanting to get up.
Still, that knocking.
"Nevermore," Megan quoted. "Fine, fine," after a few more minutes, she got up and shuffled to the door. "What?" and would've been blinking sleep out of her eyes, if she'd gotten a chance to get any sleep.
"Just stopped by to welcome you back," John Amsterdam said cheerfully, "to the neighborhood."
