Chapter 3

Growling feds Sara her cousin, while his twin sister begins to stir: “I’ll go, princesa”, Pepa stands up.

“Nah, small redhead are you hungry?”, she kisses her on the cheek “let’s see what your mommy picks for you, hmm”

She gives her me for a short time: “So let’s see”, she bites her lip, looks between Ariana and the jars: “Mashed pumpkin”, she nods and takes the jar.

I give her our daughter and like everyday I shake my head, while our daughter eats the food happily.

“You are weird, tia”, Sara rubs the nose of Jess.

Pepa grins: “Maybe, sorbrina, but that doesn’t stop you to spend ever evening at my house, does it? And they are redheads, they are stubborn, you have to have a strategy!”

“What does that suppose to mean?”, I raise an eyebrow.

She kisses me softly: “Nothing”

“I didn’t say, it’s not funny to watch, Pepa”, she grins widely.

Pepa rolls her eyes and puts the plates into the sink.

“So, you got it into the theatre, so when, because I have to know, when I have to take a day oh or so?”, I ask Maite, while Silvia washes the dishes.

She puts her head on my shoulder: “In two weeks. You will come?”

“Of course, we will, I mean if you want to”, I stroke her head.

She hugs me so tight, that I think, I don’t get any air.

“What is going on here?”, Silvia leans smiling against the doorframe.

“She’ll come to see me as the smallest dwarf!”, Maite quirks.

Silvia smiles softly at me: “Hey, do you know, that Pepa played the Snow white, when we were your age?”

She looks up at me: “Really?!”

“Yeah”, I roll my eyes “because I was the only one with dark hair”, which was just half of the truth, but than my face turns back into a big smile, because of a different memory “and Silvia was a great “little Red Riding Hood”, oh your father was so proud of you”, I tease her.

My princesa throws her head back: “Touché”, she sits down next to us.

“But that’s so cool”, Maite jumps in her seat.

I grin, stand up and run to the cupboard: “Wait, I think we have still the photos”

“Pepa no!”, Silvia shouts at me and I know she sends me a death glare, but I don’t care right now, she was so cute in her little costume!

She was 8, I forced her to, I had to play Snow white and that’s the other half of the story, she convinced our teacher to, as punishment, because I got into a fight.

I think we shouldn’t tell our kids this part of the story.

“So here it is”, I grin and put the album onto the living room table “and in two weeks we will put there another picture”, oh yes, this will be a good photo in let’s say 25 years…

Silvia looks at me raising her eyebrows: “What are you grinning about, Pepa?”

“I’ll tell you later, princesa”, I sit down next to her, while Maite flips through the pages of photos.

Silvia cuddles against me and I kiss her head: “You were really a very cute kid, redhead”

“You, too”, she grins up at me.

Maite looks up at Silvia: “And that was really you?”

Oh yeah, that was the only good thing I could find about Don Lorenzo, when we were kids, he was a really good photographer: This was the moment, when the wolf, played by Lucas, showed my redhead, that he wasn’t “her” grandma. Either she was a really good actress or she really was scared by Lucas and this at every practice!

“Yes, I was that”, Silvia growls.

I smile and whisper than in her ear: “I don’t know, what you want, you were so cute, I can still hear your shouting”

“Oh shut up, Pepa”

“Thanks darling”, I have to listen to this, every time she looks at one of this pictures.

Maite looks back at us: “And that’s you?”

Oh yes, now it’s Pepa’s turn her fake dying is priceless! “Oh yes, that’s her, she was great in this role, weren’t you, Pepa and you really liked how the dwarfs followed you?”, I cock one eyebrow.

She rolls her eyes immediately: “Yeah, make fun of me, come on, but I was not that nervous like you were, redhead”

“I wasn’t that nervous, but there were really a lot of people”, I tell the ground.

She puts her palm under my chin and brings me back to her eyes grinning: “Of course there were”

“But should I remember you at your dying scene”

Pepa has a different strategy to let the topic fall: She ignores me, by turning her attention to Maite: “Wanna beat your mums again in some board game, before you go to bed?”

She nods closing the photo album and rush to the cupboard with the games and she has a big choice: Pepa started to buy her every game she wanted, but more because my wife loves playing evenings herself.

Half an hour later Pepa beat us both, in their new favourite dice game: “Come on, bathroom and than bed”, my wife grins her “I’m the best grin”.

She really shouldn’t win, ever and really this got worse since she plays almost everyday with Maite!

In return she got a worse loser, too, which is the only reason I still play anything with her.

“Come on let us put the two of them in bed, too”, I want to stand up, but she holds me back.

She shakes her head: “No princesa, wait I have to take a photo of Jess, since today he spoke his first word”

Oh yeah, that’s the other thing, everywhere, where Pepa is, is her camera: “I should have seen it coming”, I sigh.

I kiss her softly, before I stand up: “Come on this is important, isn’t it?!”
“Yeah of course it is”, I roll my eyes, full knowing, that she will enjoy to design the album, dios I should never have given this camera to her on her last birthday! I can imagine, what she is going to do with this photo!
