I just found out James Kim was found dead earlier today. I heard he was missing on the news a few days back, but didn't keep follow up my interest until tonight. I am actually surprised it saddens me the way it does. In the media you here about death and what not somewhat often whether it be completely random people, people in your neighborhood, or popular figures. I am a bit of a tech nerd when it comes to some things and for the past 3 years or so I've always gotten my reviews on digital audio players from cnet by James Kim. His quirkiness, referencing of his family in reviews, and seemingly sincerity of content with life were actually something I admired. I can't say I know the guy personally and the only investment I could somehow relate to him would be my $300 purchase on an obscure mp3 player based on his review, but I could just tell that here's a guy who loves his job, loves his family, and seems to be having a good life. His family was stranded in Oregon in the snow for several days. Being a techie they used MapQuest or GoogleMap which for some reason plotted an obscure route that locals don't even use. That is too bad. He went out to find help while his wife and two daughters (7 years and 4 months) waited in the car. Apparently they were stranded for 11 days when the wife and daughters were rescued and James Kim was found, but could not be rescued and died shortly after being found. I couldn't imagine what it would be like for his wife, with daughters so young, to have to go through all of this because of shitty whether and bad driving directions. I doubt he deserved that. Life is unfair sometimes.
