Reccer's notes: This is a poignant, wistful story that packs a killer punch (and has a killer ending). I've always been fascinated by soulless!Sam's growing perception of himself as a being separate from soul!Sam, and britomart_is's brief fic takes a devastating look at the emotional complexities that could have developed further if soulless!Sam had stuck around. Soulless!Sam's story always had elements of (maybe necessary) blindness on the part of more than one character. This fic may distribute that obliviousness in new ways, but in so doing it also takes a sharp look at the workings of the canon blinders.
