I adore glovered's feel for Dean's thought processes, sneaky, stubborn, self-aware in a ridiculously roundabout way, a little panicked, observant of important things like Sam and pie and Sam but still capable of feats of oblivion. And somewhere back there is Sam, always figuring Dean out, or maybe always having figured him out already.
