"Numb tongue?!"

I love having health insurance with dental and eye care. Seriously.

I went to the dentist a week ago and the dentist commented on my "beautiful teeth" and "excellent home care". Then he continued by saying an old sealant failed a long time ago in a molar and it wasn't my fault that I have (now had) a cavity underneath it.

So today I went back and got my first cavity filling... Ever. Blech. The dentist tried to do it without novacaine because the cavity was "superficial". Then he took out the old sealant today and said "oh... That's deeper than I thought. We should numb you up". So I was shot with a nerve block and half of my mouth was completely numb. I was slurring my words horribly. Thankfully, I have full use of and feeling in my mouth again after 4 hours of numbness. Such an odd feeling. I don't like it.

After the events of the 14th, I am almost appalled at how easy it is to purchase a firearm. Like seriously appalled. Granted, in Alaska it is far easier to buy a firearm than anywhere else in the country.

I know nothing about guns. I have never had an interest in guns. I find the idea of hunting animals for sport completely appalling. But Steve grew up with guns and he asked for one for Christmas.

I went to a local gun shop. Walked in. Told them I wanted a Beretta M9 handgun for my boyfriend for Christmas. They asked if he had a criminal past and I said no. I filled out a piece of paper with name, address, social (which was optional), and ethnicity. They called a number and registered it under my name. I paid. And I left. In 15 minutes. With the gun in a bag in my hand.

That's it. That's all it takes. No license. No other questions. Nothing. No wonder events like the 14th happen as frequently as they do. It is Wayyy too easy to buy a gun.

I have nothing against people owning guns. But it is almost sickening at how easy it is to obtain one.
