this ep really should have been called the "dearly departed"
Okay, so I know I promised that I would have a big recap of the finale. I lied. You shouldn't have really expected too much from me, I am from the OC after all. By the time I was ready to write something about it, I had forgotten most of what happened. However, under the cut is what I remember...sorry it's late. But better late than never...just ask Kirsten. She can't even apologize to Caleb now.
-No Oliver? Dammmit, Josh Schwartz. If they had Oliver as Kirsten's suitemate in rehab, that would've been great.
+Chuck Klosterman's "Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs" an amazing "low culture manifesto." I'm not going to lie, when Seth was reading it on his bed, I felt a little bit cooler for having read the book last summer. Then I judged him for being this late in the game.
+Summer's interaction with drunk Kirsten at the wake. Rarely do we get to see Summer/Cohens interaction, and this was great because you could tell she was clued in to what was going on.
+Julie and Jimmy. Enough said, they rock. Bring Tate Donovan back!
+They may bring back Kaitlin from boarding school. No word on whether China (the prettiest pony in the world) will be rejoining the cast.
-Trey. Oy vey. First he gets involved with Jess, which was already a - to his credit, but then he becomes her henchman. No bueno, Trey--did he really want to go back to jail that badly?
+++++Thugs from Garden Grove (making them most likely Korean because seriously what are the Vietnamese people going to do. I kid, we can kill just as well as they can. Didn't you guys see Fast and the Furious?) That was awesome. "This is how we do it, Garden Grove style!" So cheesy. I love it.
-Shooting in the club. Does this look like some sort of B rate award show? Jess was being a badass, but it wasn't working--she is still just a skank.
-The preview letting us think that Marissa would get shot. Don't get my hopes up like that again, editing guys.
-I have no idea what Ryan did this whole episode.
-Seth being a whiny bitch about his mom going to rehab.
+Seth realizing that it's not all about him. Thank you. At least he realized his sailing off to Portland was a part of kick starting her problem.
+Kirsten being drunk at her father's wake, and then the ensuing intervention from her family.
-Kirsten lashing out at Ryan for saying anything about her problem, since she was the one who took him in.
+Ryan responding with a heartfelt explanation of how he didn't want her to end up like his mom, an alcoholic who wouldn't take any treatment.
-No saying goodbye to Caleb. How sad. Good Imogen Heap song used though.
+Hailey!
- Jimmy telling Hailey that she should totally go to the North Shore. So cheesy, and they had to put it in. Oh, writers, you slay me.
+Ryan gets in Trey's face when he realizes that Trey tried to rape Marissa.
+Ryan gets beat in the head with a rotary phone. How unconventional to have.
-Marissa shoots Trey. Doesn't she have enough problems already? At least they didn't make this ending about Seth again, think of the ego boost that would've been.
And did anyone realize that there was no Zach Attack in this episode? Yeah, me neither.
Isn't "dearly beloved" used in weddings? I don't think I've ever heard it in funeral context.
And so was the end of Season 2. It had it's ups, and it certainly had it's downs (ahem, Mall Episode). It was a fair season, it got a lot better at the end, and I can't wait until Season 3 starts next November.
They will be showing 2 hour blocks of the OC every Thursday, so you can relive the magic of Season 2 (especially that Mall Episode, that was grrreat!). So, if you missed any this season, I think they are going to be showing episodes 5 and 6 this week.

Speaking of Alexis Bledel, if I don't leave now, I'm going to miss my screening of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, in theaters now. Cannot. Wait.
I may blog the MTV movie awards this week, if I feel so inclined. I will try to make a huge picture update of the pictures I've amassed on my comp sometime soon also. UNtil then, have a great summer.
