play-by-play of my night with adam lambert

Aug 15, 2010 00:52

he played here in Montreal earlier this evening. it was incredible, and i would like to ramble at length about it:

that's an annual part of montreal's summer activities. st-jean, the suburb that hosts it, is about a half hour from the city. it's a week-long festival where they release a fuckload of hot-air balloons every evening, and there are park rides. and concerts.

and this year, adam ♥

so, this afternoon my friend melissa (melanderson1379) and i set out for the festival in st-jean. when we arrived, there was already an impressive crowd of people waiting. we had planned on wandering around for an hour or so, but when we saw how quickly the space was filling up, we decided to stay put.

everything went smoothly, at first. here's how we passed the time: i told melissa fun adam interview anecdotes, and she dutifully listened. a good friend indeed :) it was grand for the first hour we were there, but at around 6 o'clock people started getting pushy; montreal has poor concert etiquette. these two girls who were ahead of us ducked out of line for something and came back, but by then the space around us had filled considerably. one of the girls settled in front of me, her bulky purse digging into my stomach for the next 20 minutes, and melissa's for about an hour after that. i politely pointed out this predicament almost immediately, but the girl gave me the stink eye and did absolutely nothing to remedy the situation. it sucked, but i was determined not to let it bother me.

after all, it's Glam Nation! all we need in this world is some love!

anyway, allison came on at around 7:30, which i was so stoked about because i damn well love allison (well, of course; frankly, who doesn't!?!?)! she sang incredibly, her bandmembers were all extremely talented and smoking hot. and allison looked so foxy, like whoaaaa!

orianthi was unbelievable. that woman has mad skills. like... fuck, do my five years of strumming the same patterns and picking the same tunes even count as playing guitar when masters like orianthi exist? shit, can she ever play! she also sings amazingly well, has awesome lyrics, and, oh yes, she's hot. girl's got it all!

unfortunately, five minutes before orianthi's set finished, these two women wormed their way through the crowd to join their friends, who were standing in front of us (and they were already pretty tall), and they immediately placed themselves directly in front of melissa and i. this wasn't such a problem for the shorter of the two, who was probably around our age, but the other woman was clearly the mother of one of these girls, and her height made it so that her entire head blocked my perfect line of sight for orianthi ( :'( and adam). she stood precisely in front of me. i'm 5'3.

i was so upset. this lady doesn't even KNOW how long i've been looking forward to this; she has no idea that melissa and i have been waiting for the better part of the last three hours to see adam. but i just kind of grumpily pouted and tried not to get angry, and then luckily this woman behind me came to our rescue (her view was blocked, too). the tall lady obligingly moved forward somewhat, and although it wasn't perfect (i still had to tiptoe a lot and shift from one foot to the other to see around her), it was better than before.

there was about a half hour wait between orianthi and adam. bit long. the people around me were getting soooo frustrated; it was kind of ridiculous. parts of the crowd chanted, "adam! adam! adam!" every few minutes the entire time we were waiting, and every time an intermittent song finished, the crowd broke out in deafening cheers only to boo when another song came on. it was stupid because a woman came out after orianthi and explained it would be about twenty minutes until adam and co. came on. and yeah, waiting sucks, but if you want the show to be the best you just gotta wait!

plus, the music during the break was fucking awesome; i'm sure adam chose it, and each song was a perfect selection. there was 'black or white', 'dancing queen', 'play that funky music', 'stayin alive', and 'don't stop believing'. it was just so perfect. the crowd got psyched up and sang together, which was really nice. until the booing. and i get the impatience; i'm an impatient person myself, but come on.

anyway, then brad walsh's remix of 'for your entertainment' came on, and naturally the crowd went fucking wild. there were so many people there, you guys. it was crazy. and everyone was singing along, even these two little kids on my left, which totally made me lol.

then the band came out. i flipped my shit, and so did some people, but obviously it was nothing compared to the exuberance of the crowd when adam appeared. holy shit. i mean, my excitement could not be contained, honestly, but everyone else's excitement was even more infectious. it was wild.

adam was so amazing. i can't even -- i have no idea how to even put it into words. he was magical. otherworldly. and despite the fact that this was an outdoor venue with lots of families, adam still kissed tommy during 'fever'. i was so happy, you don't even know. i figured he'd do some tame petting (heh), but no; he just went for it like the awesome person he is, and fuck did i ever lose my head.

oh, i just need to take a moment to remark on the totally awesome shirt tommy was wearing. it was white with multi-coloured stripes, and long-sleeved... he looked so fine. and he grinned! YAY! he also mimed humping adam with his guitar/cock at one point. adam laughed; i melted. and monte -- oh, he rocks so hard! i love him. and LP!! i haven't been paying attention to how long he's got left with adam and co., so i thought maybe he wouldn't be drumming at the show but he was! and he was awesome and hot!

and omg, the dancers!! sasha looked so good (i may have screamed, "YEAH, SASHA!" at the top of my lungs before anyone else could even start cheering, so in my mind, in my delusions, she totally heard me.) terrence... dear universe, that man can move.

and adam. seriously, i wish i could put it into words, i really do. he was just breathtaking. like, during 'soaked', i just stood there staring, like i was in a trance. soaking it all up. (sorry.) i mean, jesus, how does he make that sound? how!? and how does he do it almost every night and still have a voice to sing with the next night?

okay, so here's the thing i really love about adam. it's something i've always loved about him, but obviously i noticed it especially with a mere 25-30 feet separating us. his confidence is just astounding. like, he genuinely loves himself, and it's clearly how he manages to strut his stuff and feed off the crowd and give it right back. he knows who he is; he's not ashamed or insecure. he puts himself on display in an inspiring, beautiful, staggering way. it's no wonder he's made it. was there ever any doubt? this man was made to do this. i really believe that. he's so fantastic!

i just -- i had an amazing time. i wore my hair in this kick-ass pompadour; i looked and felt gorgeous, and that energy adam puts out -- it made me sing and dance without inhibition; he made me feel so free and good and beautiful. it couldn't have been better!

go see Glam Nation! if you have the opportunity to experience adam up-close, alive and well, you need to take it. you need to.

and hey, i know you'll never read this, adam... but thank you. thank you for absolutely everything. you'll never know how much your unabashed self-expression and honesty and music and beauty means to me. thank you a thousand times.

squee, omg seventh-circle-of-hell hawt!, unf, ahhhhh!, adam fucking lambert, love, life, teh gay
