Words of wisdom from Marvin Olasky

In lew of my latest post ranting about the unfortunate candidates for the 2008 election, reading Olasky's article was like a little beam of sunshine. Here is a brief excerpt:

"We always see through a glass darkly, on matters ranging from politics to personal relationships ... How, then, should we live? With humility and charity. We make the best decisions we can with the most information we can ferret out - all the while realizing that we are fallen in discernment as well as in will.

For example, we fight for particular presidential candidates, and should do so if we are to honor those who fought and sometimes died to maintain our republic. Yet, we should recognize that it's not the end of the world if our favorite loses: In God's providence the person we opposed might turn out in unexpected ways to preserve the world.

In the end, a humble attitude toward God means that we realize our total dependence on Him to save us from not only our sins but our own limited wisdom."

Amen.

"Oh the depth of the riches of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments and his paths beyond tracing out. Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?" Romans 11:33 - 34
