The Night From Hell

My dog got sick last evening while I was out. My daughter came home to find out that she'd lost control of her bodily functions about 8 times all over my living room carpet. My carpet will never be the same again. She has never done this in her whole life. Poor thing is soooo sick! I've had a bad feeling about my dog the past two weeks, and I'm hoping this isn't another 'sign'. She's relatively healthy considering her age, so I'm not wasting money I don't have on a vet just so they can tell me that my dog is dying. If it gets to the point that she's suffering, I'll have her put down. Until then, I want her to stay with me as long as possible.

At bedtime, I thought she'd settled down somewhat as I only had to take her out twice from 9 p.m. to midnight. (She usually only goes out about 4 times a day, on average.) I crawled into bed exhausted and with my foot aching, hoping for a good night's sleep. How wrong I was!!! I had to take her out every 15 minutes from when I went to bed until about 5 this morning. At one point, she started whining just after I got settled into bed, so I let her out of the bedroom thinking she needed to go down and get a drink of water or something. Something nagged at me and I decided to follow her and watch her. She went to the living room floor, where we'd spent a good hour cleaning up her mess earlier in the night, and squatted and was about to go pee there. OMG! So out we went again! After changing from my pjs to my clothes three more times, I just decided to sleep with my clothes on. Anyway, she settled down around 5 o'clock and I laid down hoping for some much needed sleep. No such luck!

The alarm clock I bought at a yard sale last summer (in which the time works, but not the alarm), finally went off between 5:15 a.m. and 6 o'clock - 3 friggin' times! I only set it three months ago - no problem! Unbelievable!!! Finally learned in the dark how to shut that stupid thing off! Fell back into my pillow at 6 figuring I'd get at least an hour or so until I have to get up for the day. Nope! Seems like, at some point during one of the many runs of the night, that one of my daughter's cats found its way into my bedroom and went promptly to sleep in my closet . . . that is, until about 6:30 a.m. At that time, it awoke and decided to play with a very noisy bag or piece of paper it found somewhere. Finally caught and chased the cat out of the room, closed the door with it on the OTHER side, and fell back to sleep for a very sound 30 minutes.

There are 4 flights of stairs between my bedroom and the main door. Needless to say, my poor ankle is throbbing like mad today! Drove daughter to the train and granddaughter to the bus this morning, walked the dog one more time, and I'm finally settled . . . I hope! Oh, did I mention that when I went outside to drive them to work and school this morning, that snow is falling heavily and the ground is now covered with a thick blanket of the stuff. *groan*

Am I ready for my day? Nope! I've cancelled everything I had booked and I'm hoping for a little peace and quiet, if that's possible . . . zzzzzzzzzzzzz
