cardio! Well, sort of...

45 minutes of walking.

With the brand-new DVD player, it actually PLAYS the Firefly episodes. Yay!!!

45 minutes of walking. What did I say it was? Another 174 measly calories. But that IS 3 times in a 5-day period (525 calories). And I plan to do cardio tomorrow, too. Maybe even Sunday.

From http://www.lowfatlifestyle.com/calories.htm: To lose 1 pound, you must burn 3500 excess calories (500 calories per day over the course of a week).

I eat 1600 calories per day. Walking for 45 minutes (as a 107 lb woman walking 3.5 mph) burns 174 calories. So if I reduced calories by 250, and increased walking time to 1 hour and 5 minutes, I could lose 1 lb in a week.

Have treadmill, could shave off a couple of calories...when it comes down to the numbers, it doesn't seem all that hard to lose weight.

Since I have a treadmill downstairs, it's easy for me to exercise. I LIKE getting on the treadmill, especially since I have the TV and DVD player. Really, I won't get on the treadmill at all if I don't have entertainment.

All I did was go to http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/content/PED_6_1x_Calorie_Calculator.asp and plug in a few details. It tells me that as a 107 lb woman who is lightly active, I need 1530 calories per day to maintain that weight. If I wanted to lose 1 lb in 1 week, I could do that by cutting out 500 calories per day. So I take 250 off my food, and I up daily cardio to 1 hour and 5 minutes of walking.

Oh, how do I know how many calories I burn walking at 3.5 mph? Used a website that let me enter the amt of time and my weight, and I had to take the average of 3 MPH and 4 MPH. But surfing the web trying to find it again, I'm trying ALL KINDS of calculators, and the range fro 120 calories to 185, using the same data. Sigh. Maybe I should just revise my estimate of calories burned at 150.

But...still...it's easy for me to count calories because I eat a lot of prepared foods (although I try to make healthy choices). Basically, anything that comes in a package is labelled clearly as to what's a serving size, how many servings there are in a package, and how many calories are in serving.

If somebody cooks a lot, I suppose it would be hard to measure how many calories one is taking in. But it's possible to eat HEALTHY packaged foods and know how many calories you are eating. For example, I buy the fresh spinach that is washed and put in a bag. The bag is labelled, so I can figure out how many calories of spinach I've eaten. If there are six servings in a bag at 20 calories per serving, and I eat half the package, it's 60 calories. Easy.

It's easier to just buy something in a package that is already prepared, thus is just popped in a microwave or oven. Otherwise, if you add butter or any sauces, etc., you have to start counting all that stuff.

Now I see the wisdom in Prowler1971's preference for buying South Beach Diet meals. Taste good, already prepared, all caloric and nutritional content described on the package.
